Virginia Haworth- Galt, Artsplan Trainer

Virginia became Chief Executive in 2004. An experienced trainer, she has overseen the development of the Artsplan training and publications department as well as having overall responsibility for UPSTART -the UK’s only dedicated youth arts magazine.

Her art form specialisms are film and creative writing. Prior to working in the arts she worked in social policy and administration and is a part-trained social worker and a fully trained non-interventionist counsellor. Virginia joined Artswork as the national co-ordinator of the young people at risk programme and she has designed, set up and managed youth arts projects for young people at risk across England. She is the author of the widely disseminated Artsplan ‘Using the arts with Young People at Risk’, as well as the course of the same name. She has worked with many different groups of young people, using multi-artforms and in very wide range of interagency partnerships.

In addition she has worked with the Arts Council and the Youth Justice Board on the development of a ‘learning and development framework for artists working within the youth justice system’. She is one of the Arts Council’s specialist ‘Child Protection’ Advisors, and co-wrote and trains on the Artsplan Creating Safety: Child protection and youth arts course, alongside Anne Colvin.
