hub4 ran for 3 years until March 2009. It was a £1 million partnership project between Artswork, BBC Blast and The Prince’s Trust, funded by the Big Lottery. The project aimed to work with over 5000 young people, improving education, training and employment opportunities, as well as enhancing young people’s self-confidence, skills and abilities. hub4 was directly supported by the Arts Council England and Connexions, and one of the main aims of the project was to build on young people’s interest in the arts and media, allowing them to gain accreditation and move on positively with their lives.
The hub4 Project started with an intense 5 day course led by the Prince’s Trust, taking place in 4 regions of the UK. Operating in Manchester, Newcastle, Norwich and Southampton, hub4 worked directly with young people aged between 16-25 who are not in employment, education or training. Up to 30 participants in each area were recruited via local youth agencies to attend each LIVE Event, enabling them to develop skills in varying art forms.
Following the LIVE Events, the participants in each region formed creative learning hubs, to provide a support network where these young people could access professional advice to realise their full potential. Participants developed the hub into a valuable resource for young people in the region who have an interest in the arts, giving them the opportunity to access training, work experience and engage with local arts professionals to develop learning around arts practices. The young people, who ultimately became responsible for the hub and its development, were supported during this process in attaining the Arts Award accreditation.
A special training programme was developed in consultation with the hub members in order to develop skills and gain accredited qualifications.
