Katie’s Experience…...
Katie is a hub4 participant who joined the project in February 2008. She undertook the Drama Live Week in Eastleigh, and then attended our go4 event in Southampton. She has been a key member of the hub4 Southampton drop ins, and also travelled to London to take part in a workshop with Kevin Spacey with the Prince’s Trust. Below, Katie outlines her experiences of hub4.
“My name is Katie. I am 21yrs old and until recently my life has kinda lost in the disarray of everyday disruptions, Suffering from severe depression, jobless, homeless with nothing to do but watch my life vanish in the horizon. That was until the beginning of this year when I answered an advert in the local newspaper during my weekly job search. The reply to the advert was very simple: “Drama” by text message. Following my text message I got a call back for an interview which led to a one week non-residential drama week which was the beginning of new opportunities and a pivotal change in my life. Since my drama week I have tried a lot of new artforms through the hub4 drop ins. Djing where I just seemed to dance to the music, and Graffiti – imagine all the paint and I wore a white jumpsuit like a CSI agent, how fabulous! Filming and directing at the go4 event was my favourite. I am also doing courses that are nationally accredited.
With hub4 I have had the chance to explore and experience artistic projects that are out of this world. We went to London to watch a play “Stomp” that was quite unique. But the best was yet to come. Going to the Old Vic Theatre in London to watch a play with Kevin Spacey and then taking part in a drama workshop with him. The epitome of all these great things is that I am currently working as a Creative Trainee with BBC Blast and I am having a blast. I will be promoting hub4, BBC Blast and the various workshops that they will be running during the summer at Hoglands Park, Southampton.
I will keep you updated once my placement is over.
Meanwhile come to a hub4 drop in session and discover the hidden talents in you. hub4 has changed my life and it has made the journey into believing in myself possible. The future is bright and it never too late to change or to even try new things.”
